News:
This website is undergoing massive renovation in anticipation of the Kentucky Cat Haven's new campaign!
Welcome to the KY Cat Haven!
We are a 501c3 approved, cage-less, volunteer-based cat rescue organization serving the central Kentucky area.
Cage-Free Foster Care
KY Cat Haven is proud to be a cage-free facility. All of our cats are raised in foster homes and are never caged. The only exception to this practice is when they are taken to a portable adoption event or when they are under a vet's care. Raising these cats in foster homes where they are able to roam freely and interact with the foster family enables us to see each cat's distinct personality. It also lets us become aware of the cat's likes, dislikes, and alerts us to any special needs. Being raised in foster care also shows us the cat's ability to get along with other cats, dogs, and children.
No-Kill Facility
KY Cat Haven was originally intended to be a no-kill facility. "No Kill" can mean different things to different organizations, so we want to be very clear about this statement. KY Cat Haven does not euthanize for de-population purposes. Because we do not de-populate, we have to limit our numbers. We can only accept the number of cats into our program that our foster families can house. Although we try to keep all of our cats healthy and happy, sometimes nature is beyond our control. Many of our cats are older (especially our permanent residents), and with age comes health issues. Older cats can suffer the same ailments are elderly people, such as cancer and liver failure. Others simply cannot cope with losing their original home and owner - these may withdraw from life and seemingly begin to mourn themselves to death. When all our best efforts fail, their quality of life is poor, or death is unavoidable, we will not allow them to suffer. The word "euthanize" has a nasty little reputation, but if you have ever seen a family member, friend, or pet that you love suffering, then you probably understand. If you haven't ever seen severe suffering, then we hope you never do.
Spay/Neuter
Every cat adopted from KY Cat Haven will be spayed or neutered before going to their new home. There are NO exceptions to this rule. There are too many homeless animals now and we will not produce more.
